I am 20 years old, a self-taught makeup artist, licensed esthetician, and licensed cosmetologist. I began getting into makeup when I was around 14 years old. It’s actually funny because before that age, I did not like makeup at all, and refused to even attempt to wear it. It wasn’t until I realized that makeup expanded past the regular mascara application that I started to use makeup as an outlet and to express my creativity. I figured, hey, if I can draw on paper, I can draw on people.
I am a type 1 diabetic on insulin, and was diagnosed when I was 13 years old. It was a struggle to accept that my life was about to be turned upside down, and I now had to take injections for the food I love. It was even more of a struggle for my friends at school to understand what I was going through at such an awkward age. I dealt with a lot of bullying throughout my years in school, and coming home and expressing myself through makeup made me feel better almost every single day. From then on, I decided that I wanted to become a makeup artist. I plan to always continue to inspire, and help people. While makeup is fun, it is more than just a passion to me. Throughout my journey of makeup, I hope to also spread awareness for various causes, including Diabetes, Lung Cancer, and Bullying, all causes that are extremely close to my heart. I believe no one deserves to feel like they are being excluded, misunderstood, or ever held back for being yourself or by a disease/illness. Everyone truly is beautiful the way that they are. Bullying is a big issue in today’s day and age, and I feel that learning to express yourself through art is one of the best ways to cope.
Moving on through the various rounds of the NYX Face Awards would be incredibly meaningful to me, to showcase to everyone that I am who I am for a reason, and I am doing what I love. I am making a difference in the world, whether I am helping someone disguise a scar from a major accident, enhancing someone’s beautiful features, or making someone into a monster or a fantasy creature. Makeup is my passion, and I hope to inspire people of all ages to let their creations come to life on a walking, breathing canvas.
